Everyone knows that the nutritional content of dates is uncountable, however only now are the experts  recommending we all eat dates everyday. Interestingly enough a man in Arabia called Mohamed, our Prophet  (peace be upon him) offered us this invaluable information some 1400 years ago! So this super food shouldn't only be reserved for Ramadan

Here is an excellent way to incorporate dates into your daily diet, and in turn wean your children off of those sugary drinks. Maybe wean yourself off of your morning cup of joe! It's all-natural, filling, naturally creamy and nourishing and healthy alternative drink that's super energizing!

Haleeb bel tamr  is a sweet yet healthy beverage most people aren't only familiar with the ancient preparation of this traditional desert drink.🎥 HD AVAILABLE 🎥

Rich in natural nutritional elements, minerals, amino acids, vitamins, proteins and carbohydrates - combined with the nutritional benefits of milk,  and dates in their purest form are wonderfully nutritious. And also has a reasonably low calorific content. It's a unique and truly sumptuous drink that has that offers such a unique taste that really embodies the spirit of our diverse region. A taste that reminds us of Ramadan all year old. It's usually present on our table in the morning and always on our suhour and iftar Ramadan table.

This beverage is best, in my humble opinion made with Deglect Nour dates, but you are welcome to use any variety of dates you have around. The colour and sweetness may change slightly depending on the variety.

Modern science has confirmed a number of facts about dates:
  • They are rich in nutrients, they are easy to digest, and are good for childbearing women and for the fetuses they bear.
  • They contain hormones that help strengthen the uterus to prepare for childbirth and to return the uterus to the pre-pregnancy state after childbirth.
  • They contain hormones that help produce milk in for nursing mothers.
  • They contain a hormone that reduces bleeding. This is especially useful during childbirth.
  • They contain a high concentration of easy to digest sugars, which give quick energy. This is good for everyone, and especially for women in labor and those breaking their fast at the end of the day.
  • They contain fiber, which is useful in digestion and helps reduce cholesterol and a small amount of protein and amino acids, the essential building blocks of man.
  • They also contain lipids, vitamins and minerals, including vitamin A, a number of B vitamins (thiamine, riboflavin, niacin, B-6), pantothenic acid and phosphorus.!

For this recipe, I'm using cow milk, you can use the milk of your choice, including a non-dairy milk like coconut milk.

Halib b'tamr حليب التمر | Algerian Date MilkTraditional Algerian Recipe

  • 7 dates (Deglet Nour for me)
  • 250ml - 1 cup whole real cow or camel milk OR alternatively a vegan coconut milk  or almond milk

PICK some ripe and plump dates in the market. Don't buy the unriped yellow coloured ones for this recipe.
SLICE the dates in half. Make sure there aren't any worms inside.
REMOVE the seed. Save the seeds for your kid's crafts or to make date coffee with {recipe coming soon}
HEAT the milk on a low fire.
ADD the dates into the milk once warmed.
SIMMER the dates in the milk for about 3-4 minutes to infuse. The milk will turn a pale brown colour. Yours may be lighter or darker depending on what variety and quantity you use.
STRAIN the milk and date mixture.
POUR the date milk into glasses.
RESERVE the dates, for later use in bars, cookies, bradj, or as a natural sweetener. But me, I really like to eat them as is as a snack with the date milk.
This date milk would be lovely in the morning with some bradj, an Algerian date cookie made from semolina.

    Make Ahead
⇝ This date milk is easily made ahead up to 1 day before you would like to serve it.

    Storage
⇝ This drink keeps well a in food-safe container for up to 2 days. But be sure to glaze the cake right before you want to serve it.

    3. A 'variation' I was taught by Egyptians is to boil dates with water & a little sugar, cool in the fridge, and then serve in glasses with milk poured over the dates to break the fast with - I think this version actually sounds much better!
