السلام عليكم و رحمة الله و بركاته
One advantage I find fasting during the summer months, is the lack of appetite for anything solid. I just feel like gulping down gallons and gallons of water, juice, shakes or anything liquid. And if you can serve it to me slightlychilled, my parched throat will thank you for it.
Today, I share this light, refreshing drink popularized in Mexico. Agua fresca in Spanish means "fresh water" and it is simple and easy to prepare at home with the freshest of summer's bounty.
Agua fresca is a terrific thirst quencher on a hot summer day, but especially during Ramadan. The trick with making agua fresca is to infuse the water with fruit essence without turning it into a smoothie or slushy drink. Feel free to experiment with other soft fruit flavors such as strawberry, mango, papaya, guava, pineapple, cantaloupe and honeydew.
If you like this cold and cool drinks, you might also like Cherbet Limoun Dzaïri -
- 2kg seedless watermelon, cubed
- 2 cups water, divided
- 1 TBS freshly squeezed lemon juice
- 1 TBS honey, more or less depending on taste
- ice cubes
CUT the watermelon into cubes. De-seed is needed.
PROCESS half the watermelon in a blender with the cup of water.
POUR the mixture into a strainer and press agressively to get out all the juice (but not the pulp)
REAPEAT with the remaining water and melon.
YOU should end up with about 8 cups of juice.
STIR in the lemon and honey.
POUR into tall glasses and garnish.
HOW do you keep cool when the weather is hor, hot, hot? ARE YOU GETTING
