So you see dates really a staple we should have in our homes.
But how do you use dates?
Outside of eating the 3 a day that I mentioned above, I've come up with 30 ways to use dates in our everyday. And one of the ways is using date paste as a sweetener in recipes.
There are two types of date pastes. The first is a solid mash of dates known as ghars in Algeria. It's a very simple, no frills way people use dates in such recipes as Maqrout, Bradj and Maamoul to just a name a few. But ghars is rather solid and heavy. Really too hard to mix in batters or breads. So another type of more softer date paste is needed. I'm going to show you that today. It's easy.
Please note, I used the famous Algerian Deglet Nour. You can use any other variety you like. The taste will vary slightly as eac variety of date has its own special uniqueness.
.
Now after preparing date paste, what to do with it?
Why not try this date milk out.
- Or try something totally like adding it to your favorite smoothie, muffin or pancake recipe.
- Or browse through the recipe index to get inspired.
